My Young Authors Challenge Story Young.Authors.Challenge

so this is my story that i wrote for young authors challenge last term so i hope you enjoy it
The Royal Kingdom

Once upon a time in a land far far away there lived a king and the king’s name is john  a queen’s name was tracey  they lived in their   beautiful kingdom and the land was so beautiful and amazing. There were fairies and fairy godmothers and anything beautiful that you could imagine .In the kingdom there were soldiers in the doorway and everything was ongoing and the people of wonderland were all happy because  they had such a wonderful king and queen but there were some people that weren't happy. While all this was happening all the people of wonderland were organizing all the decorations for the king  and queens 2nd anniversary all the people were getting to work and some were even getting some flower arrangements done even that the people were really poor they could do the best they could that was because the john and the divya gave there best to everything for their people so why couldn’t they so they all decided that they were going to do there best but when the john and tacey arrived  they had someone else with them everybody said” yea I wonder who that” is everybody wondered suddenly heard a crying sound and they knew that the princess of wonderland was born there wasn’t only one surprise soon they knew that the john and tracey had twin girls and their names were emma and elsa. Everybody cheered and laughed and celebrated until midnight.

17years later
“hi dad “ said the twins emma and ella “good morning” said john and tracey   emma and ella  sat on the chair while the servants bring the food to the table. After they finished they went there rooms and doing their personal stuff  like art ,reading  or other stuff like the stuff you would do.So while they were working they suddenly heard a someone and when they listened they heard hard breathing sound like someone could not breath suddenly the twins heard a scream  emma said”ella  that sounds like mum”and the twins ran down the enourmis stairs and when they reached the lounge they saw john was lying on the ground and couldnt
breath and everyone tried do there best but unfortunately they could do nothing. But it was good that all the sudden john started getting better and divya asked are you alright yes just a little bit of pain in the lungs no one knew what that was.everyone was so upset after the big shock everybody was wondering .The days passed  and john got sicker every day but one day john got really sick and we called the doctor and the doctor came but sadly he couldn’t do anything so john died and mum was shocked and and tracey  just couldn’t believe it and she lost her memory and doing weird things so she went to mental hospital  and emma and ella were alone .
so they looked after the castle and did all the work that the king does .but some people wanted to rule the castle and have the people of wonderland as servants that’s why one day a person came in the castle with soldiers and kicked ella and emma out of the castle and they ended up in a village and they tiptoed through the village and a cranky old lady shoved ella and emma in the house .they looked and the old lady said i know what happen to you i can help you and trust me and she said you can fight for the castle you have the spirit in you so thats what they did and they fighted for the castle and for many days they didn't eat for days and said there’s no place like home and they won and killed the bad ones and got the castle back from the witch’s .

the end

Anjli's iExperience Chicken Habitat Design

Learner: Anjli                                                             Date: August 2015
Learning Area: iExperience - Localise It Habitat Design  Learning Coach: John Dyer
Learning Observed
Anjli has been inspired by Chickens! Over the past few weeks, Anjli has joined me in an iExperience to research, design and build a habitat for a chosen animal. The eventual aim is to turn the model into full size habitat on our school grounds. Anjli has been engaged throughout our learning and has a lovely nature. She enjoys sharing her ideas and is not afraid to make mistakes and discuss how to improve.

Anjli has continually learned new knowledge that she has applied to her plans. She has used the internet effectively and asked me questions when wanting to take learning to the next stage.

The end result is a successful habitat design for chickens that Anjli is able to explain and share. She knows all about chickens vs hens and roosters vs cockerals. She knows about the egg laying ability of hens and their ability to fly. She is also a fountain of knowledge about the relationship between a T-Rex and the common farmyard chicken!

speech about how we can fulfil our dreams

so this is my speech that i have worked on and i hope you will enjoy it.
Martin Luther King said "I have a dream"  .Well let me tell you a story about a young Martin Luther that fought for his life with death.William pike is an inspirational speaker, influencing young NZ and a leader in the outdoor and education . He is a living, breathing example to people of all ages that anyone can overcome adversity and challenges, leading to a more fulfilling life.At the end of September, with no warning at all, Mount Ruapehu erupted.
William Pike and his mate James Christie were in a DOC hut at the very top of the mountain, when volcanic rock and lava smashed over the top of them.
William Pike was trapped beneath the rock, he couldn't move.
And with their shelter destroyed, he was He has lost a leg, he has had skin grafts and numerous major operations, but as you'll see, this inspiring young man simp exposed to snow and freezing winds, with no way of getting warm.
Very matter of factly William Pike prepared himself to die.
His mate James Christie set out into the dark to find rescuers, but it was the middle of the night, on an erupting volcano, who would possibly be up there?
Two months later, William Pike is still recovering in Waikato hospital.
he can't believe his luck that he's alive.
lapsing into unconsciousness with hypothermia, and waking in a hospital to find he was alive. This all happen because he had a dream and he didn’t stop he fulfilled his dream and he says all pasion no limits

So my three reasons for my speech were to
-always believe in yourself and anything is possible
-all passion no limits
-always fulfill your dreams and never stop dreaming .
so i hope all of you enjoyed my speech thank you

Tallest Tower Technology Challenge - Learning Story - August 2015

Learners:  Anjli & Taanvi                                       Learning Coach:  Ms Wilkes
Learning Area: Science and Technology                        Date: August 2015
Learning Observed
Taanvi and Anjli were 2 of four learners who initially showed interest in representing OrmPS at a technology challenge at Point View Primary School on August 26.  They met each Friday for a new challenge.  Their first challenge was to make the tallest free-standing tower they could using only the materials they were provided with:  5 sheets of paper, 6 straws, 30cm tape, 2 pipe cleaners, a couple of popsicle sticks and their imagination.  There was a time limit and they were up against the girls!  Anjli and Taanvi strategised together before they started building showing some fantastic problem solving and an ability to pre-plan.  They also made adjustments as they went demonstrating that they were resilient and could respond as needed.  They used the materials wisely and tried to keep the brief at the forefront- great effort.
Evidence of learning

Anjli and Taanvi go head to head against Justin & Nelvin in our first Technology Challenge!
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Anjli and Taanvi participated and contributed enthusiastically, relating well to each other and managing themselves.  They used strong thinking strategies to maximize the use of their materials to strengthen and heighten their tower.  They collaborated strongly demonstrating an ability to listen to each other and communicate.  Their curiosity was evident in their design and although their design did not win they developed their capability at thinking and planning for technology challenges.
Next Learning Steps
  • continue to come and participate in challenges every Friday
  • consider starting and leading a club for technology challenges in Term 4
  • practice for the competition!
  • ensure that you always stop and think before making decisions
  • write a blog post about this!

Google Summit Learning Story - August 2015

Learners:  Anjli, Taanvi & Jasmine                          Learning Coach: DWilkes
Learning Area: Technology and KCs                            Date: Aug 12, 2015
Learning Observed
Anjli, Taanvi and Jasmine made us all proud when they represented us at the first ever Student Google Summit on Aug 12 at Hobsonville Point Primary School.  They were joined by hundreds of other learners from around Auckland and facilitated and participated in some exciting workshops about learning with digital technologies.  There was a lot of work leading up to this day.  First, Anjli and Taanvi met with Ms Wilkes to express their interest, brainstorm what they could present and then write and submit their pitch to the GEGNZ.  They demonstrated passion, commitment and skills while meeting their deadline.  This was their pitch:
Using GAFE in our Learning Adventures
We are going to be talking about our google drive, docs, slides, sites and much more. We will also be sharing with you all the stuff that we use on our devices for learning. We are lucky to have BYOD and lots of school devices. Our Learning Coaches use Teacher Dashboard to share docs with us which is really useful. We would like to share with you some examples of our learning. Come to our session if you would like to join us on our learning adventure!!!
They were of course successful and were added to the programme.  They then had to create their presentation and included lots of videos and interactives like padlet.  The learners decided it would be great if they could practice their workshops the day before to iron out any crinkles and so they were able to facilitate their workshops for the rest of the habitat.  On her own as Taanvi was unwell, Anjli (amidst massive technical difficulties) persevered in her practice run with a group of 15 learners and responded to feedback, making some small changes to improve their presentation.  On the big day Jasmine demonstrated capability and collaboration when she offered to support Anjli with her presentation as Taanvi was still unwell.  Jasmine and Anjli demonstrated confidence and resilience when many devices couldn’t access the internet.  We were very proud of the way they solved problems, remained calm, positive and supported the participants.  Way to go girls!
Evidence of learning
Anjli practices (even when she had no projector!)

Anjli and Jasmine present to 13 learners             Anjli wins a prize!
The OrmPS Google Summit Crew 2015
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
The girls showed they could relate well with others both in their collaborative effort in creating and facilitating their presentation and in responding to feedback.  They participated and contributed, managing themselves in 3 other sessions on the day and took their learning back to OrmPS to share with others.  They showed curiosity in the google cardboard session and made connections to prior knowledge.  They were capable at solving problems when there were technical difficulties and constantly collaborated to maximise their own learning and that of others.
Next Learning Steps
  • start thinking about their presentation for next year
  • write a blog post about their experience
  • teach family members some new skills/tricks they learned

Presentation on Jamie McDell's Leadership - Learning Story - August 2015

Learners:  Kavisha & Anjli                                             Learning Coach: D Wilkes
Learning Area: KCs and Literacy                                                Date: Aug 5
Learning Observed
Kavisha & Anjli collaborated together to provide a wonderful and inspirational component to the ‘Leadership Experience’ as a long awaited follow up to the NYLD that all the Year 6s attended in Term 2.  The girls co-constructed a presentation and sand the song ‘Crash’ (see their slides in the Leadership Experience presentation).  They sparked the curiosity of the crowd with the strong message of ‘be yourself’.  Kavisha and Anjli did extra research and learning about Jamie so they could create a more honest picture of what she stood for. The learners loved watching the girls sing.  Practicing their public speaking, writing, presenting and leadership was what they did while the audience was inspired by Jamie McDell’s message .
Evidence of learning
Anjli & Kavisha present Jaime McDell’s message and song confidently

The girls share Jaime’s ideals                     Anjli acts as DJ and keeps us amped

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
While Kavisha and Anjli collaborated they made direct and indirect connections to their experience at NYLD.  The related to others, managed themselves responsibly and participated enthusiastically on the day.  They were passionate, committed and responded to changes with resilience.  The preparation for the presentation was great- they coordinated their outfits, song sheets and practiced their speaking parks.  They inspired us with Jamie’s message and her song.
Next Learning Steps
  • add more pictures to enhance and strengthen the message of ‘be yourself’
  • write a blog post about the afternoon including your reflections
  • share your learning with family at home
